Templeogue Basketball Club made a decision last year to re-enter a Senior Ladies team into the DLBB. After a recruitment process lasting several months 12 superbly committed and talented players would form a team to be entered into the DLBB Division 2 for the 2016/2017 season. Unfortunately one of those players, Bronagh Byrne, suffered a season ending injury very early on but as luck would have it the Head Coach job was still vacant, so Bronagh took the reins.
Templeogue’s new season in Division 2 would begin in difficult circumstances with their opening 7 fixtures all away from home.
The opening game was against Aer Lingus in the first round of the DLBB Senior Cup, but with inexperience and a team still getting to know one another Templeogue were beaten 52 – 40.
Shortly after that game the D2 Ladies had another defeat, this time in their opening League game away to Malahide – but the tides were about to turn…
Next up, and only 4 days later, were UCD (2) but the girls found their form and won 52-44.
Then it was the turn of UCD (1), a much tougher game but a victorious one, Templeogue winning 50-33.
Another away game on a Friday night in Gormanstown saw Templeogue defeat Drogheda 65-55.
A battle of pride commenced on Tuesday 8th November against Maol Og, the girls had a tough challenge on their hands, but with good team spirit came through winners again, 48-43.
A home game was drawing closer but not before a trip Northside to face Killester which Templeogue won 51-39.
On Wednesday 23rd November and with 5 wins in a row, Templeogue would face cup foes, Are Lingus, in their first home game of the season. It would turn out to be a tough game from start to finish. Templeogue were behind for the first three quarters and going into the fourth quarter were down by 9 points, but with a lot of strength, determination, good coaching and sideline support the Templeogue D2 Ladies came through, winning the game 49-37.
The victory sees Templeogue top of the table and their next game is away to Tridents on Tuesday, 29th November.
Huge congratulations must go to the girls on what’s been an amazing start to the season. Thanks to all the supporters who have travelled to all the away games and to the supporters who turned up in numbers for the first home game. We hope the support continues.
