Templeogue tough it out against UL Eagles

February 27, 2017

With big games taking place around the city, the Templeogue Basketball Clubs main focus was on maintaining their place at the top of the table with a home game to Radisson Blu UL Eagles. Lining out without rested players Mike Bonaparte and Neil Randolph a tough game against bottom of the table UL was in store.

The first quarter began at a fast pace with both teams trading baskets, UL picking off long range 3 pointers to edge them in front 19 – 23. In the second quarter Templeogue opened stronger with Jason Killeen netting 10 of his 25 points. Paul Cummins, playing his first full game since an early season injury, hit some impressive 3 pointers. Templeogue lead at the halftime break 46 – 41, all very much still to play for.

The third quarter was a scrappy affair with both teams desperate not to make mistakes. However, as the fourth quarter opened it was back to business for Templeogue. Paul hit three more 3 pointers, and Lorcan Murphy had the crowd on their feet with some spectacular dunks. The move of the game went to Puff Summers for his dive from half court to the free throw line to intercept a fast break pass.

Impressive defence from the home team limited the Shannonsiders to only 7 points in the final quarter. Lorcan, Puff, Paul and Alan O’Neil combined for 28 points to open the gap and see Templeogue maintain their lead at the top of the Basketball Ireland Men’s Super League with only 4 games to play to the end of the season.

Thanks to all the supporters who came out last Saturday for our second last home game of the current campaign, as always you were fantastic.

Templeogue travel to Galway to play in-form SSE Airtricity Moycullen next Saturday, followed by a trip Northside on Tuesday March 8th to play Pyrobel Killester. On Saturday, March 11th for our last home game we welcome this seasons surprise package Garvey’s Tralee Warriors to Oblate Hall. Finally, on Saturday 18th March Templeogue face Griffith Swords Thunder in a game that could possibly decide the destination of the Men’s Super League title.
