Templeogue Begin Men’s National Cup Defence

October 18, 2016

Templeogue begin their defence of the Hula Hoops Men’s National Cup against last seasons League champions UCC Demons this Saturday in Oblate Hall.

TBC go into the game as unbeaten League leaders, although that will be irrelevant to the current champions. Stalwarts Lehmon Colbert and Colin O’Reilly departed Demons over the Summer but new coach Tim O’Halloran has recruited wisely. New US signing from D1 college Appalachian State Mountaineers 6’8″ Jacob Lawson has averaged 18.5pts per game and will be a huge threat… literally!

Demons have won 3 from 4 in the Super League this season, their only loss to UCD Marian in Belfield and last weekend defeated KUBs 77-74 in the Men’s Super Series at the Arena.

TBC continue to show signs that last seasons run in the League and Cup was no accident. Last weekends encounter with UCD Marian proved a lot of doubters wrong but this weekends Cup game will be treated like a final, and the squad will hope to take an advantage to Cork for the 2nd leg on Sunday 30th October.

This is a mouth watering opening fixture and neither team will want to exit the Cup at such an early stage in the season. The victor will play Irish TV Tralee Warriors or Griffith Swords Thunder in a winner takes all game to reach the quarter final stages.

The game tips off this Saturday at 7.30pm and a large crowd is expected so early arrival is advised. Let’s continue to show why we’ve the best supporters in Irish Basketball.

Let’s go Templeogue!!!
