Playing Belfast Star at home is always a tough fixture, and going to Belfast with an unbeaten record made the game even more of a challenge. However, the faithful Templeogue supporters came out in force and filled the courtside in their trademark Red, chanting Templeogue and of course ‘Defence’ when needed.
The game opened with Star having the best of the interchanges and what was a tough fought first quarter, saw them take a narrow lead of one point 15-14.
The second quarter was equally tight, with neither side edging ahead. Defence was strong and the battle of the boards was intense. Jason Killeen was leading the way from the free throw line, and had a double double by half time, including a big three pointer!
At the half, Mark had a stern talk with the lads, as the score was still precariously balanced at 29-32 to Templeogue.
They came out of the blocks on fire and ran in a 20-5 run, to put distance between themselves and the home side. Even though Belfast Star rallied, the lads kicked home and we once again saw a trademark Lorcan dunk, in what was a quiet night from him, by his standards.
It was great to see the introduction of the new blood with Sam Walsh, getting on the floor and joining in on the scoring, together with our new Scottish player, Ben Warrington, who having served his 60 days is now eligible to play… Welcome on board Ben.
Puff Summers was flawless, with 100% shooting and Alan O’Neil also joined in the scoring with a nice three of his own. Not to be outclassed as he turned 30 last week, Ronan also added a three pointer for good measure. So all in all it was another great win on the road for Templeogue, who hold a three point advantage over their nearest rivals in the top of the Basketball Ireland Men’s Super League table.
Top scorers for Templeogue: Jason Killeen 25, Michael Bonaparte 20 and Lorcan Murphy 16.
We’re back to home turf this Thursday, 17th November, when we face Super League newcomers KUBS in a Northside/Southside derby. Tip off at 8pm in the National Basketball Arena.
We hope to see you there.
