Reigning Hula Hoops Men’s National Cup champions Templeogue are through to the quarterfinals after a thrilling two legged encounter with current Super League champions UCC Demons.
After last weeks heroics in the first leg in Oblate Hall, TBC took a slender aggregate lead of 9 points to Cork for the second leg.
The Mardyke Arena was packed to capacity as both teams scored end to end in the first, TBC with a 5 point advantage when Lorcan Murphy shoots a 3 point buzzer beater to give TBC a 28-20 lead.
in the second quarter saw more of the same with TBC extending their lead, shooting 26 points. The score 54-36 to TBC, a 27 point aggregate lead.
Demons came out strong in the third and were within a basket to draw the tie level but baskets from Stephen James and Puff Summers ensured that TBC were not going to let the game slip away. Demons won the 3rd but TBC held the lead, 72-60.
The fourth was a scrappy affair and tensions were showing as Demons head coach Tim O’Halloran was T’d up and US player Jacob Lawson was fouled out. Final score 94-85 to TBC, an 18 point aggregate win.
TBC now face last seasons beaten finalists Griffith Swords Thunder in Oblate Hall in early December, date to be confirmed.
