Templeogue Basketball Club opened the new Super League season with a huge win over Dublin rivals DCU Saints. A Dublin Derby is always a great way to start the new season and a big welcome was on the cards from our Northside competitors in their own home court, St. Vincents Gym Glasnevin – the home of many derby games in the 1980’s.
The game started in flying form, with Lorcan Murphy escaping out of the blocks at speed and velocity. It didn’t take him long to get the first of his many dunks of the night, to the delight of the large crowd. Both our big men, Jason Killeen & Mike Bonaparte, played a huge part in what was a massive team effort to take the win on the opening night of the season.
It was a tough fought battle at both ends of the court, with Templeogue’s physicality, strength and conditioning paying dividends in the end.
The travelling Templeogue fans took great pleasure in cheering on their team and helped hugely to spur them on and play well. Lorcan had an impressive 30pts, followed by Jason on 24 and Mike on 14, however, the unsung hero of the night was Baolach Morrison, who steadied the ship at the point.
So onward, and in Lorcan’s case upward, to this Sundays first home game v Killester in Oblate Hall at 3.30pm. We hope to see you there.
